Iku-Turso | Kalevala

Iku-Turso

Iku-Turso, son of Äijö, inhabitant of the depths. The guardian of his kingdom, the nurturer of wisdom, knows the thousands of stories that lie beneath the surface.

In the Kalevala, Väinämöinen banished Iku-Turso, the terror of the seas, forever into the depths of the waves. It dived there, and it has never been seen before. The jewelry named after the mythical character of the Kalevala was created in the 1940s by the artist Germund Paaer. He was inspired by buckles depicting entwined snakes from the time of national migrations.
